Mixed Media "Happy Mood" Collage with beads and a charm

I was inspired by the current mixed media challenge #10 at Craft Hoarders Anonymous  to create this collage/assemblage using images cut from a vintage magazine, sheet music, atlas and advertising flyer. I arranged them and pasted them down on a piece of board with Yes! stick flat glue (the best for collage!). I covered the frame in a map from an old Atlas.

I used vintage sheet music to cover the wooden bird I placed in the little girl's hand and to make a flower. I added color to the girls eyes, cheeks and lips with acrylic paint. I used an acrylic glaze on the frame and over the collage to protect and add a little shine.

I used an extra long eyepin to attach the charm, bead and ribbon to a hook in the bottom of the frame. The "Happy Mood" sentiment is cut from the magazine.

Material

Paper—vintage magazine, atlas, sheet music and ad images
Paints—acrylic paints and Décopatch satin varnish
Misc.—frame, board, eyepin
Embellishments—ribbon, beads, bird charm, wooden bird
Adhesive—Yes! stickflat glue

  1. This is just GORGEOUS with a fun and flirty flair. The look in the little girl's eyes begs a smile, and covering the frame with a page from the atlas was a stroke of genius as was using authentic vintage music for the accents. LOVE that "dangly" below, of course! Brilliantly done, my dear!
