Reasons to visit Paris's Sacré-Coeur and Montmartre

It had been a while since my husband and I had been to Montmartre so last week we decided to pay it a visit. We had good reasons. Let's face it, Sacré-Coeur is stunning.

And the Metro station we stop at is one of the old-fashioned ones, always worth a photo.

Montmartre's steps are a good way to work off a morning croissant!

It's always interesting to see what inspires Montmartre's painters (we got there early as they were just setting up).

Then there's the view from in front of the Sacré-Coeur; you can see all of Paris!

But the BEST reason to visit Montmartre is to meet a friend. The talented Fanny from Scrap de Fanny DG and I have been 'talking' for a while now, leaving comments on each other's blogs, giving each other ideas on where to get the best craft supply prices (France is so expensive and Fanny's a pro at finding the best deals) and swapping emails, but we haven't met in real life. Fanny works in Montmartre and it was wonderful to finally have a chance to meet her. We have a lot in common—we're both from the Americas (her South, me North), we're both married to Frenchmen, and (most importantly) we love to scrap. I'm happy to say she's every bit as nice in person!

  4. Montmatre is my favourite neighbourhood in Paris and I always go to sip rose wine while watching the people walk by. Sitting on the stairs of Sacre Ceur is always fun, as street artists normally entertain either on the stairs or the street below. Once a fit young man dribled a football on the fence post and the actualy FENCE just across the street, even on his hands!

I had one of my most amazing dining experiences in Montmatre, at a wee restaurant just down from the square. The restaurant only had 5-8 tables and we thought it was odd that the same woman who came to tell us the menu (on a board) and take our order, also cooked in the open kitchen, which was located in a corner of the tiny restaurant. She was at least seven months pregnant and ran a full restaurant completely by herself that night! Her waitor had called in sick and she probably needed the money. That's true dedications! The food and athmosphere were truly amazing. I've tried to visit the restaurant again on later occasions, but sadly it has always been closed. Hopefully she's now got a less hectic day job so she can raise her kid!
