A Swiss Village Fountain

Almost every village in France and Switzerland will have these type of fountains scattered about. What were once important water sources for inhabitants now offer refreshment for thirsty walkers on a summer afternoon, provided the sign Eau Potable is affixed to the fountain (this means the water is drinkable). This particular fountain allows human consumption, but furry friends are not permitted.

This fountain is in a small Swiss community we pass through on our daily walk and as you can see dates to 1820.
