Country Cabin Thanksgiving Card Over the River and Through the Wood

When I saw this Nell's Cottage free digistamp from Beccy's Place I instantly thought...Thanksgiving! 'Over the River and Through the Wood' immediately began to play in my mind. By the way, do you know the origin of that song? It was originally a poem entitled 'The New-England Boy's Song about Thanksgiving Day' written in 1844 by Lydia Maria Francis Child, American abolitionist, women's rights activist, Native American rights activist, novelist, journalist, and opponent of American expansionism – just my type of gal! At some point in time the poem was set to music by an unknown composer. Interesting to note – Grandmother's house in the song was Grandfather's house in the poem, and it is '...through the wood' singular, not plural.

I used my new Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers to color the stamp. These markers are fantastic! Remember my recent fake marker post? I can tell you the difference between these markers and the cheapy ones is night and day.

This is such a pretty stamp and it looks so nice against the barnwood floor digital paper I couldn't bring myself to clutter it up with embellishments. I did, however, add a Thanksgiving sentiment created with Boheme Font.

Supply List
