Easy Easter Take-Out Candy Boxes

We had lunch with some friends recently. Friends we haven't seen since before Covid. In fact, the last time we all had lunch together was the week just before our first confinement, more than two years ago! We were long overdue. Since Easter was coming up, I thought it might be nice to give them each a little gift. I decided to do this the day before, so I needed something I could do quickly.

I used the Take Out Box plastic template from now defunct Papermania. This is a thick plastic sheet that you trace around with a pencil onto your paper, cut out, and fold together. I have several of these from different companies and they work great (as this heart shaped mini album and Christmas candy bag demonstrate). I am really, really going to miss Papermania; they were one of my favorite craft supply companies (sigh). If you want to make a box like this there are several different kinds of free printable templates available online – just google 'take-out box template'.

Do use a heavier weight paper for this kind of project. It needs to be able to stand up well and support whatever it is you put inside. I used Folio Motivblock Garden carton paper and glued ribbon to the bottom of the boxes to dress them up. Before printing, I added shadows to PNG images from Prettygrafik's Easter Eggs Animals clipart (so you could see the edge of the image when printed on white) then diecut the images with no-brand stitched circle dies before adhering to the boxes and embellishing with foam floral stickers, carrots, and enamel dots. Of course the best was saved for last...the chocolate Easter eggs inside!
