Practicing Creativity

Istanbul Inspirations birthday card and IBSIC #52

IBSIC #52—and the last in this format. The IBSIC will be moving to Joanna's blog and will become a monthly challenge lasting two weeks (so everyone has a chance to participate) with three lucky blog candy winners each challenge receiving $15 gift cards to the store. And don't forget Whoo Hoo Wednesdays and the monthly blog hopthere's always something exciting going on!

In rifling around my paper stash, looking for paper in this week's colors, I came across this Toga Saveurs d'Orient sheet and knew I had to use it. A couple of years ago, my husband and I visited Istanbul on vacation. I was so amazed by the architecture and colors, especially the Blue Mosque. This paper reminds me of that happy time. Inspired by Stamping's Big Notes II "Wishing you a Beautiful Day" sentiment, embossed in gold is perfect on the front.

Since I don't have easy access to "normal" scrapbooking supplies I'm always on the lookout for things I can use that aren't for scrapbooking per say. This flower is a case in point. I picked up a bunch of these for a very good price at a discount/factory closeout shop I like. They have wires attached to the back. I simply cut the wire off and...voila! I have to watch my creative pennies and if I'm going to splurge, I'd as soon it be on something I can use again and again...like stamps!

Inside the card I used a stamp from IBS's Birthday Greetings set. I like this set. You've got several nice sentiments for the inside of your card that you can pair perfectly with the Big Notes sets on the outside (like I did here).

And our colors for this week:

Play along with us at IBSIC this week for a chance to win a $15 gift card to the IBS store!

Sharing a little of my inspiration with youhere's a peek at Istanbul's skyline. Alas, we didn't have the sunniest weather when we were there.

  1. Bet that was one wonderful trip, Shani. :) The closest I've ever been to Istanbul was when we visited the Costa del Sol in Spain, with a little day trip to Gibraltar. I enjoyed that trip so much!

Your card has a gorgeous, exotic touch. Beautiful!
