A French fair—Rochexpo foire de la Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc

Thursday of this week my husband and I took a short 30 minute drive and went to Rochexpo Foire de la Haute-Savoie Mont Blanc. The Haute-Savoie is a mountainous region, lots of skiing, good food, cheese. The drive alone made it worth going, so pretty.

I love a good foire (a sort of fair). This one was really big with over 500 vendors. They had everything on display, furniture, clothes, food, wine, farm equipment, automobiles...you name it. We got there early to avoid the crowds.

This is the food hall. We spent a lot of time here. Free samples, free wine tasting—these things can't be rushed.

There was Pain d'Epice in all sorts of flavors. Pain d'Epice is a kind of spice bread traditionally sweetened with honey—not sugar—and no oil. It's quite yummy.

There were even vendors from Italy; like this one selling cheeses, oils, and sausages.

These colorful spices almost make me want to cook.

I asked the vendor if I could take a photo of this enormous brioche. He was so nice he even picked it up and gave it to my husband to hold (No, Honey, we're not buying it!). Brioche is a lightly sweetened bread made with eggs and butter and is normally eaten for breakfast.

Sausages, sausages, and more sausages... so tasty.  Now, guess what we had for lunch? Go on...

Sausage! How'd you guess? These sausages are called diots and they're a specialty of the region. They're delicious, especially with a good red wine, which we had.

If you're visiting in France and see a foire on anywhere, do go. They're such fun.
