Upgrading an Inexpensive Plastic Photo Album

Mini-album front with cover and elastic closure

Although I love creating a prettily embellished mini-album (as this First Trip to Europe one I did for my niece would attest), one of my favorite mini-albums to make is an inexpensive plastic album upgrade. You can find these little 10 cm x 15 cm albums (4" x 6") for almost nothing; this one cost me €0.79 at an outlet shop. With an image processing app, digital paper/embellishments, photo paper, and printer you can take this little album from blah to WOW! Plus, photos are protected, you don't have to worry about embellishments falling off, and since it's flat, it's easy to mail.

I've done a tutorial for another similar album HERE.

Itinerary and title page

To maximize photo capacity, I used digital image processing apps to create a collage template for the inner pages and to digitally decorate same. I also created front and back covers, an inside index of dates/places visited, and title page. I then added an elastic closure, as I thought that more masculine than a ribbon one.

Inner collage pages

Seattle Cousin visited in October/November 2019 and this mini-album souvenir was sent as a birthday present earlier this year. He loved it! Yeah, it's nice to access cloud photos on all our devices, but there's something to be said for picking up an album and seeing those memories printed out on the page.

Ah, the good ole' days when we could all still travel and the worst thing we were afraid of catching was a cold!

Here's a before shot of the album.

  4. Great keepsake. Yes, looking at photos online IS NOT the same as flipping through an album.
