Mini vintage velvet friendship journal

Un Petit Livre d’Amitié – A Little Book of Friendship – is one of two small books I picked up for a few cents in a thrift store a few years back.   The other is titled Un Petit Live d'Amour – A Little Book of Love. Apparently, these two were part of a set of four. At the back of the books, it says the covers are vélin de Japon, a type of vellum, covered with Persian velvet  velours de Perse

There is no printing date, so I can't be sure when they were printed. I've never seen anything like them. Both little beauties were in a very sad state.

I decided to give Un Petit Live d’Amitié to a friend of mine to use as a note journal. These are small books, 70 mm x 135 mm (about 2 7/8" x 5 3/8") and the covers are delicate, so I decided to keep embellishment and extraneous papers to a minimum.

I kept several of the original papers (lovely poems and essays on friendship), added some scrap and origami papers, some drawing and lined paper, made some little pockets for bits and pieces she might want to save and bound it all with my Zutter Bind-it-all (sturdier than ring binding).

An angel charm and ruby crystal bead dress the front, as does a mix of vintage lace and ribbon.

Un Petit Live d'Amour is still waiting for its makeover. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Valentine's maybe?

Material

Vintage book, miscellaneous scrap and origami paper, Zutter Bind-it-all wire, angel charm, ruby crystal bead.
