Vintage bird card – Thinking of You

The birds on this Thinking of You card were cut from a vintage bird book (note—I do not cut from valuable books, only those with no value and/or in bad condition). I placed them against Aladine's square Maxi Swallow Collage stamp.

I propped up the birds with 3D squares so they'd stand out a bit more and added some unraveling cheese cloth behind to play up the vintage look.

The sentiment was generated on the computer and printed on vintage paper. I used Nellie dies for the sentiment label and decorative corner.

Supply List
Paper—vintage, cardstock, MME The Sweetest Thing paper pack
Imagery—vintage birds
Ink—Versafine black
Dies—Nellie's MFD0027 corner die and MFD066 label die
Embellishments—ribbon, pearls, cheesecloth
Fonts—Alex Brush

  2. I'm always so scared to cut up my vintage books. I can see I need to get over that and start using them. This turned out lovely.

  4. A stunningly beautiful card Shani. The birds look amazing but, like one of your earlier commenters, I shudder at the thought of cutting up any book - let alone a vintage one!
Still, it is certainly worth it in this case :o) Clare x

  11. Wow Shani, your card is absolutely stunning, such a beautiful elegant image and I love the muslin and pearl detail, so pretty. Many thanks for the comment you left on my blog and the brilliant tip for taking suitcases to America, such a clever idea although very dangerous on the credit card! :) Donna ♥ x

  13. This card is just gorgeous! I love to emboss, but have never tried my hand at scrap booking/papercrafts like this. I seem to be needing a lot of different supplies, and being short on cash at the moment, it's probably not the right time to start. But I can always gather important intel, right?!? ;-)

    1. Hihihihihi...you bet! I'm here to inspire. And really, I'm using digital stamps and papers now more than traditional ones, they're much less expensive and (most importantly) take up zero space in my office/craft space.
