The UN’s 7 Principles of Ocean Literacy – Ocean Decade Exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland

Last year The Ocean Agency, UNESCO, and other partners, launched the Ocean Decade Exhibition. It is an art exhibition that will be traveling around the globe to raise awareness of the ocean's importance and to help aid conservation through creativity. These surreal works of art were created with the UN’s 7 Principles of Ocean Literacy in mind. These principles are:

Principle 1: Earth has one big ocean with many features.
Principle 2: The ocean and life in the ocean shape the features of the earth.
Principle 3: The ocean is a major influence on weather and climate.
Principle 4: The ocean makes Earth habitable.
Principle 5: The ocean supports a great diversity of life and ecosystems.
Principle 6: The ocean and humans are inextricably interconnected.
Principle 7: The ocean is largely unexplored.

The exhibit was displayed in Geneva on the right bank of the lac de Genève from 3 August to 5 September. My husband and I were in Geneva on Sunday and were lucky enough to see it before it was through.

I've included five of my favorites here, but I could have included every one I looked at. I am a fan of collage and these all were just magnificent. I encourage you to click HERE on the Ocean Agency's website to see all the images and if it should happen to be on display anywhere near you, to check it out in person. If you'd like to support their work, there's a button there to donate.

It does hit home how important the world's oceans are, and how much we have to protect them.
